1891 Census: aged 68, married, Market Gardener & Greengrocer. Living at 9 High Street, Hadleigh.
1901 Census: Edward, 73, was living with his wife in High Street, Hadleigh.

He was married to Sarah Ann CLARKE on 22 May 1855 in Layham, Suffolk. Witness to the marriage were Alfred Clarke, Elizabeth Clarke, Emily Clarke and Henry?.
He had marriage banns published May 6th, 13th and 20th 1855 in Layham, Suffolk. Sarah Ann CLARKE was born in 1832 in Layham, Suffolk. She signed a will on 31 Jul 1912. Sarah was a widow, living in Hadleigh when she wrote her will. The Executors and Trustees were her two daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Smith and Ada Anna Smith.
She was buried on 10 Sep 1914 in Hadleigh, Suffolk. Sarah, 88, was living in Hadleigh at the time of her death. Her will was proved on 9 Jul 1915 in Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk. 1861 Census: Sarah, 33, was living in High Street, Hadleigh with her husband and 2 children.
