Samuel was to receive the £1000 upon his fathers death.This was to come from the trust set up under the terms of his Grandfathers Will. If he was under 21 it was to be invested. A Codicil in his grandfathers will, dated 11 Mar 1880, increases the legacy to £1500. He was an Agricultural Engineer as per 1881 Census. 1881 Census: Samuel, 25, was living at Shelley Hall, Shelley, Essex with his wife and Aunt, Jane Harrison. He also had 2 domestic servants and a groom living with them.

He was married to Amelia UNKNOWN. Amelia UNKNOWN was born about 1854 in Fairstead, Essex. 1881 Census: Amelia, 27, was living with her husband at Shelley Hall, Shelley, Essex. Samuel William BLYTH and Amelia UNKNOWN had the following children:
