1851: Great Wigborough, in the Winstree Hundred and Lexden Union, is 7 miles South West of Colchester and 9 miles North East of Maldon. The area of the parish is 2,700 acres and the population, in 1841, was 479. The ancient parish belonged to the Abbess of Barking. It was recorded in the Domesday Survey. In 1843 the return of real property to the Property Tax was £2,259 19s 10d.
